Today is President’s Day, and since I don’t have many presidential things lying around the house, I thought I’d tell you this honest-to-goodness story of how my small collection of Abraham Lincoln doo-dads began.
My hubby is a big Civil War buff.
My hubby is a BIG Civil War buff. His office is full of books on the Civil War and paintings on the wall by his favorite artist, Mort Künstler.
He’s weird about his office and doesn’t like me to mess with it (aka make it look more interesting).
But every now and then, I’ll find something to slip in without him even noticing.
This small collection of Lincoln things started as a joke.
This small collection of Lincoln doo-dads started as a joke. I slipped a bookend on a shelf and waited to see if he’d notice… nope.
Then I waited a few months and added another. Once again, he didn’t notice.
I did it again… and again, (hehe, this was fun!).
It’s been a couple of years now, and I recently put my small collection of Abe Lincoln things together. The bookends were excited to see each other, but my hubby …not so much.
He was calm, as usual, and asked me this crazy question, “And why do you think I need these?”
Hmmm… I looked at him and tried to predict where this would go. I wasn’t sure if I should try to answer or just leave the room before getting a speech about his personal space.
“Because you love me. And you know I can’t help myself.”
He got up from his chair and gave me a hug. And that was the end of that!
The End. 🙂
